I’ve never been a huge fan of powder- I love dewy skin.

I have been long looking for the perfect powder to take away shine from certain areas on the face, and to set make up – but a powder that isn’t obvious – thick or chalky. I have powders, many of them, from the very cheap to the more expensive – loose and pressed – and I have never really had a specific favourite. I like Nars’ pressed powder in ‘Eden’, and Bobbi Brown and Daniel Sandler’s loose powders. The wrong powder can be unflattering – accentuating lines and pores.

I was working last week, and make-up artist Helen Hand at ITV did my make-up. My friend Lucy text me after the programme saying, ‘Your skin looked incredible – what did you use?’ I messaged Helen and asked her what had given my skin such a fabulous finish, and the answer was Bobbi Brown’s Brightening Finishing Powder.

This powder can be used all over the skin, it gives a flawless, healthy, smooth finish. I ordered shade ‘Porcelain Pearl’ as that is what Helen used on me. The powder contains sodium hyaluronate – this controls excess oil on the skin. Mulberry, grape, and scuttellaria extracts brighten. The other shade option is ‘Brightening Nudes’- this was the original of the two.

These powders are an ideal choice for older skins too, they brighten and smooth the skin, rather than drying and accentuating fine lines and wrinkles. The dewy look doesn’t tend to be flattering on more mature skin, but the wrong powder is possibly even less helpful.

This product is on the higher end of the powder scale – £40 – but I ordered it immediately. I have so much make-up, beautiful products, and am very lucky to be able to try lots of products for people too. I didn’t need a new powder – but this one was far too good to miss. I can’t imagine a time that this won’t be an essential in my make up bag.

I ordered it from the John Lewis website – I had never before realised that anything ordered there can be collected from your nearest Waitrose store – or of course John Lewis. This is good if you need something urgently or won’t be in when the delivery comes – it’s also free.
