St Tropez Skin Illuminators Violet/Rose/Gold

I saw these intriguing St Tropez Illuminators, at the spa’s till point at Wentworth Club, where I had been having a massage. Three different shades – Gold, Rose, and Violet.

The violet version, is the original. It used to be packaged in a white tube – for those who may be familiar with it – but with the introduction of the gold and rose  shades, it has been repackaged. It was used behind the scenes at London Fashion week in 2010. In 2011, the rose and gold, were London fashion week additions.

All three shades can be used on face and body. I was greatly struggling to pick between the three colour options.

As pictured – Violet/Rose/Gold

The Violet is blue undertoned – slightly unusual for a highlighter perhaps. It says it suits all skin tones. I would imagine it to look most fabulous on pale skins, asian, or black skins. It is apparently still the best selling colour of the three, it perhaps has some very loyal followers. It is quite a cool colour. We all probably have a good idea as to whether cool or warm colours suit us the most.

The Rose, is the shade that I bought. I am relatively pale, especially in the winter months. I have been using it on my cheekbones, down the centre of my nose, and across the top of my forehead. It gives a very healthy look. It isn’t intense, it’s fairly subtle. It isn’t as thick and apparent as benefit’s High Beam, but it has that similar feel. It being a thinner consistency, and less pigmented, means it is perfect for use on the body. Being St Tropez they are all meant to compliment a tan – whether that be real or fake. Across the chest, shoulders, and legs would be the areas of the body I would focus on.

The Gold, is the shade that I bought for my friend Katie, who is fairly tanned all of the time. Of the three shades, this is the one I would buy for the majority of my friends. For anyone other than those with much paler skin, I think it is probably the easiest one to use. I didn’t buy it for myself because it felt that it would have been the ‘safe’ option, and I always like to try something different!

I have found a video on YouTube of  Nichola Joss, who Kelly Brook credited in her top five beauty tips blog, showing us the best way to use the Skin Illuminator!

Please vote on the poll – purely because I am being inquisitive – and because I’ve just worked out how to add a poll!

But also, please tell me which shade you would chose, in the comments below, and I buy one for someone to try. It’s definitely time, for not only a poll, but a giveaway…!

I love them. We all need a bit of luminous highlighting especially in these winter months. Also a bit of glow does one good in the summer as well.

Def the gold, I wear fake tan most of the time so I’m hoping it will give a nice sheen to transform my day look into night xx

Would love to give this product a try, Susie. Have tried High Beam’s products and liked them too-I’d opt for the Rose one here, although the Gold one with a summer tan would be really nice too I’d imagine.
Best of luck with the play, hope its going well 🙂 Olivia

I think I’m torn between the Rose and the Gold but seeing as I would prob use it when I have fake tan on and not my pale Irish skin I’d say the Gold would prob be the one I’d buy, what an interesting product! X

I saw these but couldn’t decide which would be best for my skin tone and I was worried i’d look like i’d been sprayed with glitter!!! I think rose would be the one – I might look in to buying one after reading this, seems like it won’t look as obvious as I’d thought. Thanks

I love your blog!!!! Trouble is I want everything!!! I would buy the gold as I would definitely like the one that is easiest to use! Having just returned from 2 days honeymoon to a house of poorly children and now my husband I could certainly do with some illuminating!!!!

Karen Miller – I will email you for your address. I picked totally randomly with a special number system. I love polls and numbers!

Thank you everyone for the poll contribution, Rose is the most popular choice – it’s exactly what I bought, but still I am so surprised it wasn’t the gold.

Anyway Karen wants the gold… And she is just back from her honeymoon, so that is probably the perfect choice

I would love to try the gold as I’m tanned all year round because of my job.I’ve never really under stood the point of an illuminator, the only ones I’ve used or tested before have been really sparkly & looked like I’ve just rolled in glitter! However i would love to be proven wrong & have another new addition to my ever expanding make up draw!
